Your Local Liquor, Vape and Smoke Shop on Prater Way in Sparks
Prater Liquor and Smoke Shop is a family-owned neighborhood store at 1447 Prater Way, Sparks, NV 89431. We bring three kinds of shopping under one roof: a full liquor store with beer, wine and spirits, a vape shop with disposables, pod systems and e-liquids, and a smoke shop with cigars, cigarettes, rolling supplies and smoking accessories. Add in cold drinks, snacks and everyday essentials, and most errands can be handled in a single quick stop.
We opened our doors to serve the people who live and work around Prater Way, and today our customers come from all over Sparks and the wider Reno area. Some stop in every day on the way home from work. Others drive across town because a friend told them we usually have the flavor, bottle or brand they could not find anywhere else. Either way, our goal is the same: a clean, well-organized store, friendly people behind the counter, and fair prices on the products you actually buy.
This page is a guide to everything we carry and how we work. You will find an overview of each department, practical tips for choosing a vape device or a bottle of whiskey, answers to the questions we hear most often, and directions for finding us. If you would rather talk to a person, call us at (775) 622-0740. We are always happy to check whether a specific product is on the shelf before you make the trip.
What makes a neighborhood store different
Big-box retailers and grocery chains carry alcohol and tobacco as a side department. For us, these products are the main focus, which changes how we stock the store. We pay attention to what our regulars ask for, we bring in new vape flavors and devices when customers request them, and we keep popular items in stock rather than letting shelves run empty. Because we are a small, family-run business, the same faces greet you most days, and many of our customers know our team by name.
That personal approach shows up in our reviews. Shoppers on Google regularly mention the friendly staff, the clean store, the wide vape selection and prices they consider fair. We read every review, and we use the feedback to decide what to carry next. If there is something you would like us to stock, tell us at the counter or give us a call.

Vape Shop in Sparks, NV: Disposables, Pods, E-Liquids and Accessories
Vapes are the department our customers mention most, and we work hard to keep a wide range of devices and flavors on the shelf. Whether you are a longtime vaper hunting for a specific flavor or an adult smoker comparing options for the first time, you can browse our vape shop section or ask our team to walk you through what is available today.
Vape products contain nicotine, which is an addictive chemical. They are sold only to adults 21 and older, and they are not intended for people who do not already use nicotine. We do not make health claims about any product, and we encourage anyone with medical questions to speak with a healthcare provider.
Disposable vapes
Disposable vapes are the simplest place to start. They arrive pre-filled and pre-charged, so there is nothing to refill and no settings to adjust. Many modern disposables also include a USB-C charging port, which lets you recharge the battery until the e-liquid runs out. When you compare disposables, a few details matter more than the packaging:
- Puff count. Manufacturers list an estimated number of puffs. Real-world results vary with how long and how often you draw, so treat the number as a rough guide rather than a promise.
- Nicotine strength. Most disposables use nicotine salts, usually listed as a percentage or in milligrams per milliliter. Higher numbers deliver more nicotine per puff.
- Rechargeable or not. A rechargeable battery helps you use every drop of the e-liquid instead of throwing away a device that still has liquid left.
- Flavor. Fruit, ice, dessert, menthol and tobacco profiles are all common. If you are unsure, ask which flavors other customers come back for.
Two of the disposable lines customers ask us about most are FOGER and Geek Bar Pulse. Availability of individual flavors changes often because popular ones sell quickly, so call us at (775) 622-0740 if you are looking for something specific. You can also see a small selection of items on our shop page.
Pod systems and refillable devices
Pod systems use a small rechargeable battery and either refillable pods or pre-filled cartridges. They cost more upfront than a single disposable, but many adults find them more economical over time because you only replace the pod or coil and the e-liquid. Pod devices are also a good middle ground for people who want to choose their own e-liquid flavors and nicotine strength without learning a complicated device.
When you shop for a pod system, look at battery capacity (measured in mAh), whether the device uses replaceable coils or whole replaceable pods, how easy it is to fill, and whether it is draw-activated or uses a fire button. Our team can show you how a device fills and charges before you buy it.
E-liquids and nicotine salts
If you use a refillable device, you will need e-liquid. There are two main types:
- Freebase e-liquid is the traditional style, usually sold in lower nicotine strengths and often used in higher-powered devices.
- Nicotine salt e-liquid uses a different form of nicotine that many people find smoother at higher strengths. It is designed for low-powered pod devices.
Always match the e-liquid to your device. Using high-strength nicotine salt in a high-wattage device can deliver far more nicotine than intended, while low-strength freebase in a small pod device can feel weak. If you are not sure which is which, bring your device in and we will help you find a compatible bottle.
Vape accessories
Alongside devices and e-liquid, we carry the small items that keep a vape working: replacement pods, coils, charging cables and other accessories. Coils wear out over time, and a burnt or muted taste is often a sign that it is time for a new one. If your device stops firing, check the charge and the pod connection before assuming it is broken. Many problems turn out to be a loose pod or a dirty contact.
Safe handling and battery care
Vape devices contain lithium-ion batteries, so a few simple habits go a long way:
- Use the charging cable designed for your device, and do not leave devices charging unattended for long periods.
- Keep devices out of extreme heat, such as a car dashboard in a Nevada summer.
- Never carry loose batteries in a pocket with keys or coins.
- Keep all nicotine products, including e-liquid bottles, away from children and pets. E-liquid can be harmful if swallowed or spilled on the skin.
- Do not throw used devices in household trash where possible. Lithium batteries should go to a battery recycling drop-off or a household hazardous waste program.
Finding the right vape
The easiest way to find the right product is to tell us what you liked or disliked about the last one. Too harsh? Too weak? Did the battery die before the liquid ran out? Answers like these help us point you to a device or flavor that suits you better. For a full overview of what we carry, visit our vape shop page.
Vape Glossary: Common Terms Explained
New to vaping, or confused by the labels? Here are the terms you will see most often on packaging and in our vape shop.
- Disposable: a pre-filled, pre-charged device that is used until the e-liquid runs out.
- Pod system: a compact rechargeable device that uses refillable or pre-filled pods.
- Mod: a larger, more powerful refillable device, often with adjustable settings.
- Coil: the heating element that turns e-liquid into vapor. Coils wear out and need replacing.
- Ohms: the resistance of a coil. Higher-resistance coils are usually used at lower power with nicotine salts.
- mAh: battery capacity. A higher number generally means longer time between charges.
- Puff count: a manufacturer’s estimate of how many puffs a disposable delivers.
- Nicotine salt (nic salt): a form of nicotine used in many disposables and pod devices.
- Freebase nicotine: the traditional form of nicotine used in many bottled e-liquids.
- PG and VG: propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin, the two base liquids in e-liquid. Higher PG tends to carry flavor and throat feel; higher VG produces more vapor.
- MTL (mouth-to-lung): a drawing style similar to a cigarette, typical with pod devices.
- DTL (direct-to-lung): a drawing style used with higher-powered devices.
- Draw-activated: a device that fires automatically when you inhale, with no button.
- Ice flavors: flavors with an added cooling sensation.

Liquor Store in Sparks: Whiskey, Bourbon, Tequila, Vodka, Rum and More
Our liquor department covers the everyday favorites people reach for most, along with bottles for celebrations, gifts and cocktail nights. You will find whiskey, bourbon, tequila, vodka, rum, gin, liqueurs and mixers, in sizes from small travel bottles to full-size and larger bottles. If you are planning a party or looking for a particular label, call ahead and we will check the shelf for you.
Whiskey and bourbon
Whiskey is a broad family of spirits distilled from fermented grain and usually aged in wooden barrels. A few styles come up again and again at our counter:
- Bourbon is an American whiskey made from a grain mix that is at least 51 percent corn and aged in new, charred oak containers. It tends to taste sweeter, with notes of vanilla and caramel from the barrel.
- Rye whiskey uses a mash that is mostly rye. It is often spicier and drier than bourbon, and it is a classic choice for cocktails such as the Manhattan.
- Scotch whisky comes from Scotland. Single malts are made from malted barley at one distillery, while blends combine whiskies from several distilleries. Some Scotch has a smoky, peaty character.
- Irish whiskey is often known for a smooth, light style that suits sipping and mixing.
- Tennessee whiskey is similar to bourbon but is typically filtered through charcoal before aging.
If you are buying whiskey as a gift and are not sure of the person’s taste, a well-known bourbon or a mild blended Scotch is usually a safe choice. Tell us your budget and we will show you a few options.
Tequila and mezcal
Tequila is made from blue agave in specific regions of Mexico. Look for “100% agave” on the label if you want a tequila made only from agave sugars. Bottles labeled simply “tequila” may be “mixto,” which can include other sugars. Tequila is grouped by how long it is aged:
- Blanco (also called silver or plata) is bottled unaged or rested very briefly. It has the brightest agave flavor and is popular in margaritas and other cocktails.
- Reposado means “rested.” It is aged in oak for at least two months, which softens the spirit and adds a little vanilla and spice.
- Añejo is aged at least one year, giving a richer, darker spirit that many people enjoy sipping.
Mezcal is a related agave spirit that is often made by roasting agave in underground pits, which can give it a distinctive smoky flavor.
Vodka, rum and gin
Vodka is the most versatile spirit for mixed drinks because it is designed to have a clean, neutral flavor. Flavored vodkas add citrus, berry, vanilla and other notes. Rum is made from sugarcane or molasses and ranges from light white rum for mojitos and daiquiris to dark and spiced rums with deeper molasses and spice flavors. Gin is flavored with juniper and other botanicals, making it the base for classics like the gin and tonic, the martini and the Tom Collins.
Liqueurs, cordials and ready-to-drink cocktails
Liqueurs and cordials add sweetness and flavor to cocktails and desserts. Coffee liqueur, orange liqueur, cream liqueur, schnapps and fruit liqueurs all have their place behind a home bar. If you want a cocktail without the measuring, ready-to-drink canned cocktails and premixed bottles are a convenient option for gatherings, the lake or game day.
Mixers and party supplies
A great drink needs more than the bottle. We carry mixers such as sodas, tonic and juices, along with cocktail mixes, so you can pick up everything for a margarita, a whiskey and cola or a party punch in one stop. Many customers grab ice, cups and snacks at the same time.
Buying for a party
As a rough planning guide, a standard 750 ml bottle of spirits holds about 17 drinks poured at 1.5 ounces each. Plan on a mix of beer, wine and one or two spirits rather than a little of everything, and always have non-alcoholic drinks and water on hand for guests and designated drivers. If you are not sure how much to buy, tell us how many guests you expect and we will help you estimate.
See our liquor store page for more about the spirits, beer and wine we carry.
Easy Cocktails You Can Make With One Trip to Our Store
You do not need a fancy bar to make a good drink at home. Every recipe below uses ingredients you can pick up in a single stop at our liquor store: a spirit, a mixer and a few basics. Measurements are for one drink. Use a jigger or a shot glass for accuracy, and always serve plenty of water alongside.
Classic margarita
Shake 2 ounces of blanco tequila, 1 ounce of orange liqueur and 1 ounce of fresh lime juice with ice. Strain into a glass with a salted rim and fresh ice. Prefer it sweeter? Add a splash of simple syrup or agave syrup. In a hurry? A bottled margarita mix with tequila works well for a crowd.
Paloma
Fill a tall glass with ice. Add 2 ounces of tequila and a squeeze of lime, then top with grapefruit soda. Add a pinch of salt if you like. It is one of the easiest and most refreshing tequila drinks for warm Nevada afternoons.
Old fashioned
Stir 2 ounces of bourbon or rye whiskey with a quarter ounce of simple syrup and two dashes of aromatic bitters over ice until cold. Strain over a large ice cube and garnish with an orange peel. A smooth, everyday bourbon is perfect here; save your rarest bottles for sipping neat.
Whiskey sour
Shake 2 ounces of whiskey, three-quarters of an ounce of fresh lemon juice and three-quarters of an ounce of simple syrup with ice. Strain over fresh ice. Sour mix is a quick substitute for the lemon and syrup.
Moscow mule
Fill a mug or glass with ice, add 2 ounces of vodka and half an ounce of lime juice, then top with ginger beer. Swap the vodka for bourbon to make a Kentucky mule, or for tequila to make a Mexican mule.
Mojito
Gently muddle a few mint leaves with half an ounce of lime juice and half an ounce of simple syrup. Add 2 ounces of white rum and ice, then top with club soda. Stir and garnish with mint.
Rum and cola, gin and tonic, and other two-ingredient classics
Some of the most popular drinks are also the simplest. Pour 1.5 to 2 ounces of spirit over ice and top with your mixer: rum and cola, gin and tonic, vodka and soda, whiskey and ginger ale, or tequila and grapefruit soda. A squeeze of lime or lemon makes almost any of them better.
Batch drinks for a party
For gatherings, a pitcher or drink dispenser saves time. Multiply any recipe above by the number of servings, mix everything except the soda in advance, and top with soda just before serving so it stays fizzy. Label any punch that contains alcohol, and offer a non-alcoholic version for drivers and guests who are not drinking.
Beer and Wine in Sparks
Cold beer is one of the main reasons customers stop by. We carry well-known domestic beers, imports, craft beer, hard seltzers and flavored malt beverages, in singles, six-packs, twelve-packs and larger packs. Seasonal and limited releases come and go, so if you saw something new on social media, call us to see whether it has arrived.
Domestic and imported beer
Domestic lagers remain the most popular choice for barbecues, game days and casual nights in. Imported beers from Mexico, Europe and beyond offer a different flavor profile, from crisp Mexican lagers that pair well with lime to rich European ales and stouts. Light beers and low-calorie options are also widely available.
Craft beer
Craft beer covers a huge range of styles. If you are new to it, here is a quick guide to the names you will see on the cans:
- IPA (India Pale Ale): hop-forward, often citrusy or piney, with noticeable bitterness. Hazy IPAs are softer and juicier.
- Pale ale: balanced and approachable, with less bitterness than most IPAs.
- Lager and pilsner: clean, crisp and refreshing.
- Stout and porter: dark, roasty beers with coffee and chocolate notes.
- Wheat beer: light, slightly cloudy and often fruity.
- Sour beer: tart and sometimes fruity, made with souring bacteria or yeast.
Hard seltzers, ciders and flavored malt beverages
Hard seltzers, hard ciders and flavored malt beverages are popular with people who want something lighter or fruitier than beer. Many come in variety packs, which make it easy to try several flavors at once.
Wine
Our wine selection covers everyday reds, whites, rosé and sparkling wines for dinners, gifts and celebrations. If you are choosing a wine to go with a meal, a few general rules help:
- Lighter whites such as Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc suit seafood, salads and chicken.
- Fuller whites such as Chardonnay pair well with creamy pasta and roast chicken.
- Lighter reds such as Pinot Noir work with salmon, pork and mushrooms.
- Bolder reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot pair with steak, burgers and barbecue.
- Sparkling wine and Champagne are classic for toasts, brunch and anything salty or fried.
Most still wines are best served slightly below room temperature for reds and chilled for whites, rosé and sparkling wines. If you need a bottle cold right away, ask us what is in the cooler.
Choosing the Right Drinks for Every Occasion
Not sure what to buy? These quick suggestions cover the situations our customers ask about most.
Backyard barbecue
Go with crisp lagers, a variety pack of hard seltzers and one easy cocktail, such as palomas or a batch of margaritas. Burgers and ribs pair well with a bold red like Zinfandel or Cabernet Sauvignon for guests who prefer wine.
Dinner party
Plan on roughly one bottle of wine for every two to three guests over a long dinner. Offer one white and one red, start with sparkling wine as guests arrive, and finish with a dessert wine or a liqueur with coffee.
Birthday or celebration
Sparkling wine is the classic choice for toasts. For a crowd that likes spirits, a well-known tequila or whiskey with mixers and plenty of ice keeps things simple. Do not forget cups, napkins and snacks, which you can find on our essentials shelves.
A gift for someone special
Bourbon, single malt Scotch, aged tequila and sparkling wine are reliable gifts. If you are not sure what someone likes, ask us for a mid-priced bottle of a widely loved style rather than an unusual specialty. A cigar paired with a bottle of whiskey makes a thoughtful gift for an adult who enjoys both.
A quiet night in
Pick up a six-pack from a local or craft brewery, a bottle of your favorite red or the makings of an old fashioned, plus snacks. It is the easiest kind of night to plan, and it is a quick stop on Prater Way.
Smoke Shop and Tobacco in Sparks: Cigars, Cigarettes and Accessories
Our smoke shop department serves adult tobacco customers with cigarettes, cigars, rolling tobacco and the accessories that go with them. As with every age-restricted product we sell, you must be 21 or older and show a valid photo ID.
Cigarettes and rolling tobacco
We carry popular cigarette brands in packs and cartons, along with loose rolling tobacco and pipe tobacco. Customers who roll their own will also find rolling papers, filter tips, tubes and rolling machines. If you buy by the carton, call ahead and we can confirm that your brand is in stock.
Cigars and cigarillos
From convenient machine-made cigarillos to larger premium-style cigars, our cigar selection covers both everyday smokes and something special for a celebration. When choosing a cigar, three factors shape the experience:
- Wrapper: the outer leaf strongly affects flavor. Lighter wrappers tend to be milder, while darker wrappers are often richer and sweeter.
- Size and shape: larger ring gauges usually smoke cooler and longer. Smaller cigars are good when you have less time.
- Strength: beginners usually prefer mild to medium cigars.
Store cigars in a humidor or a sealed bag with a humidity pack so they do not dry out. A cigar cutter and a butane torch lighter give a cleaner cut and an even light.
Lighters, butane and smoking accessories
We stock the essentials: disposable and refillable lighters, torch lighters, butane refills, ashtrays, rolling trays, papers and wraps, and other everyday smoking accessories. Butane refills are useful for torch lighters and other refillable devices. Always refill in a well-ventilated area away from open flames.
Glass and specialty accessories
Our accessory selection changes over time. If you are looking for a specific type of glass piece, cleaning supplies or a particular accessory, stop in or call to ask what we have right now. All smoking accessories are sold for lawful tobacco use only, to adults 21 and older.

Snacks, Drinks and Everyday Essentials
Many customers tell us they appreciate being able to pick up more than one thing at a time. Along with alcohol, vapes and tobacco, we carry snacks, candy, chips, energy drinks, sodas, water and other cold drinks, plus everyday household items. If you are heading to a get-together, you can grab the beer, the chips and the ice in one stop. If you are on the way home from work, you can pick up a drink and a snack without a trip to a big supermarket.
Our essentials shelf is built around what neighbors actually ask for. If there is an everyday item you would like us to carry, let us know at the counter.
How to Store Beer, Wine, Spirits and Vape Products
A little care keeps what you buy tasting the way it should.
Beer
Keep beer cold and out of direct sunlight. Light and heat break down hop flavors, especially in clear and green bottles. Hop-forward beers such as IPAs taste best fresh, so drink them within a few weeks of the canning date. Darker, stronger beers such as stouts hold up longer.
Wine
Store unopened wine on its side, away from light and heat, at a steady cool temperature. Most everyday wines are made to be enjoyed within a few years of purchase. Once opened, recork the bottle and keep it in the refrigerator. Most still wines stay pleasant for a few days, and sparkling wine is best within a day or two with a stopper.
Spirits
Unopened spirits are very stable. Store bottles upright, away from heat and sunlight, with the cap tight. Unlike wine, spirits do not continue to age in the bottle. Cream liqueurs are the exception; check the label and refrigerate after opening if recommended.
E-liquids and vape devices
Store e-liquids upright with child-resistant caps tightly closed, in a cool, dark place, and always out of reach of children and pets. Keep vape devices away from heat, water and sharp objects, and charge them only with a suitable cable. If a battery is swollen, damaged or hot, stop using it and dispose of it safely.
Cigars and tobacco
Cigars need steady humidity. A humidor or a sealed container with a two-way humidity pack keeps them from drying out or cracking. Rolling tobacco should stay sealed in its pouch to keep its moisture.
Seasonal Shopping Guide for Sparks and Reno
What our customers buy changes with the calendar. Planning ahead for the busiest times of year can save you a second trip.
Summer and outdoor season
Long, hot summer days in the Truckee Meadows mean cold beer, hard seltzers, canned cocktails and plenty of ice. If you are heading to Sparks Marina, a day at the lake, a backyard barbecue or one of the big summer events around Victorian Square and downtown Reno, pick up drinks in cans where glass is not allowed and keep everything in a cooler. Remember sunscreen and water too.
Game days
Football season and big game days are busy times for beer and snacks. Twelve-packs, thirty-packs and party-size snacks go quickly on weekends, so stop by early or call ahead if you need a large order of a particular beer.
Holidays and celebrations
Thanksgiving dinners call for wine that pairs with turkey, such as Pinot Noir or a dry Riesling. The winter holidays bring requests for gift bottles, liqueurs for coffee drinks and sparkling wine. New Year’s Eve is a peak time for Champagne and sparkling wine, so shop a day or two early for the best selection. Cinco de Mayo and summer holidays are peak times for tequila, margarita mix and Mexican lagers.
Holiday hours
Store hours may change on major holidays. We update our Google Business Profile ahead of time, and you can always call (775) 622-0740 to confirm.

Age Verification and Responsible Retail
Alcohol, tobacco and vape products are restricted by law, and we take that responsibility seriously.
- 21 and over only. Federal law and Nevada law set 21 as the minimum age to buy tobacco and vape products. Nevada’s minimum age to buy alcohol is also 21.
- Valid photo ID. We ask for a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, state ID card, passport or military ID. Please have it ready, even if you have shopped with us before.
- No purchases for minors. Buying alcohol, tobacco or vape products for anyone under 21 is against the law. We may refuse a sale if we believe the products are being bought for someone underage.
- Right to refuse. Our staff may refuse any sale when they cannot verify age, when an ID appears altered, or when a customer appears intoxicated.
These rules protect our community and allow us to keep serving you. Thank you for helping us follow them.
Drink responsibly
Please enjoy alcohol responsibly. Never drink and drive. The Reno and Sparks area has rideshare and taxi options, and planning a sober ride before you start drinking is the safest choice. If you are hosting, offer food and non-alcoholic drinks, and make sure everyone has a safe way home.
